Classical Dance

Bharathanatyam

Bharatanatyam is one of India’s oldest and most revered classical dance traditions, embodying rhythm, expression, storytelling and spirituality. At Anura Academy, students are trained in the Tanjore style with equal emphasis on technique, artistry, theory, and stage presentation.

What our students learn

Foundation Course

Basics of Bharathanatyam, body alignment, Adavus, postures, hand gestures and introduction to rhythm.

Intermediate Course

Advanced Adavus, introduction to Nritta and Abhinaya techniques, basic choreographies and dance pieces, body conditioning and strengthening.

Advanced Course

Learning the Margam and repertoire, performance preparation, ensemble work and choreography.

Movement & Stillness

Yoga

Our Yoga program is designed to cultivate physical strength, flexibility, mental clarity, and inner balance. Rooted in traditional yogic principles, the classes integrate Hatha Yoga and Vinyasa Yoga, offering a harmonious blend of mindful alignment and dynamic movement suitable for practitioners of all levels. Each session concludes with Pranayama (breathwork) and Meditation, encouraging relaxation, enhanced focus, and overall well-being.

Classical Music

Carnatic Music

Our Carnatic Music program introduces students to the fundamentals of South Indian classical music, building a strong foundation in melody, rhythm, and vocal technique. The course is designed for beginners and aspiring musicians, with a structured approach that nurtures both musical understanding and appreciation. Students begin with the fundamentals of Abhyasa Sangeeta, gradually progressing to Devaranamas, enabling them to develop confidence in singing while gaining insight into the rich tradition of Carnatic music.

What You Will Learn

  • Abhyasa Sangeeta – Foundational exercises including Sarali Varisai, Jantai Varisai, Daatu Varisai, Alankaras, and other basic vocal exercises to develop pitch, rhythm, voice control, and musical discipline.
  • Devaranamas – Learn devotional compositions that introduce students to expressive singing, lyrical interpretation, and the beauty of Kannada devotional music.
