Amba
Premiered in 2025, Amba is an original Bharatanatyam production conceived and choreographed by Vid. Sowmya Vishal. Rooted in the traditional Margam format, the production reimagines the powerful story of Amba and Shikhandi from the Mahabharata, presenting a compelling narrative that bridges classical tradition with contemporary thought.
The production traces Amba’s journey through love, rejection, determination, and transformation, culminating in her rebirth as Shikhandi. Through expressive abhinaya, intricate nritta, evocative music, and narration, Amba explores themes of femininity, identity, resilience, and gender, inviting audiences to reflect on the complexities of selfhood and the enduring strength of the human spirit.
While remaining deeply rooted in the grammar and aesthetics of Bharatanatyam, Amba demonstrates the timeless relevance of classical dance as a medium for meaningful storytelling and social dialogue. Amba stands as a testament to Anura Academy’s commitment to preserving tradition while fostering innovative artistic expression.

Kalotsava
Kalotsava is the annual recital of Anura Academy of Performing Arts, celebrating the dedication, growth, and artistic journey of our students. The event provides a professional stage for students across all levels of learning — from beginners taking their first steps in performance to advanced disciples presenting refined repertoire.
More than a showcase, Kalotsava is a celebration of learning, perseverance, and the joy of the performing arts. It offers students the invaluable experience of performing before a live audience, building confidence, stage presence, and an appreciation for the collaborative spirit of a production.
Each recital reflects the academy’s commitment to excellence, tradition and holistic artistic development, while encouraging every student to embrace the transformative experience of sharing their art with the community.
Studio Showcase
Echoes of Rhythm
Echoes of Rhythm is Anura Academy’s studio showcase created to celebrate the diversity of dance and provide a platform for artists across all dance forms. Through an open call for applications, dancers are invited to present their work in an intimate studio setting that fosters artistic exchange and meaningful connections between performers and audiences.
Designed as a space for exploration and collaboration, Echoes of Rhythm encourages both emerging and established artists to share their craft in a supportive environment. The close proximity between the performer and audience creates a unique experience where every movement, expression and rhythm can be appreciated with depth and immediacy.
By bringing together artists from varied dance traditions, Echoes of Rhythm nurtures dialogue, celebrates creative expression and strengthens the performing arts community through shared experiences and mutual inspiration.
